WEI’s Statement at the opening of the 26th session of the CRPD Committee

 

WEI delivered a statement at the opening of the 26th session of the CRPD Committee. This statement highlighted issues of importance at the intersection of gender and disability, including the impact of the pandemic and the lack of accessibility for people with disabilities in the mainstream feminist movement. WEI updated the committee on the work undertaken in this regard, and highlighted the organization’s response to the pandemic, and the initiatives taken with the Inclusive Generation Equality Collective to ensure the meaninful participation of feminists with disabilities in the Generation Equality Forums.

The statement also included a request for the Committee to consider this issues to ensure that a gender perspective is included in crisis response, including for the COVID-19 pandemic and current armed conflicts, and that women, girls and gender minorities with disabilities have an accessible seat at the table where their rights are being discussed an decided.
