Anita García Ortiz

Executive Office Associate at Women Enabled International

Born and raised in Guatemala. Her journey began with co-founding MaRES Association, where she implemented projects aimed at preventing child labor and migration, organized art and creativity workshops for youth in rural areas, and developed innovative curriculums based on Visual Thinking.

Anita was Project Coordinator, Cultural Manager, and Editorial Assistant at La Erre Cultural Center / RARA Editorial (2011-2017). She coordinated the transformation of an abandoned warehouse into a cultural center, managed monthly cultural events, and launched various cultural magazines.

Her extensive experience includes over six years in project coordination and program assistance within international cooperation organizations, notably at UNESCO from 2017 to 2023. There, she managed logistical, administrative, and communication tasks, coordinated international missions, and organized numerous events. She also supported projects like the UNESCO-Malala Centers and the Project for Labor and Educational Inclusion for People with Disabilities.

Motherhood has been Anita’s biggest inspiration, profoundly shaping her desire to continue creating bridges and fostering unity. This influence is evident in her personal projects, such as Niña Vieja, an embroidery initiative that blends traditional techniques with contemporary perspectives, fostering community and healing.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in the Pedagogy of Language and Literature and a Teacher Certification for Secondary Education in History of Art from Francisco Marroquin University.
