Neville VII Mejias

Service Dog at Women Enabled International

Neville is a lab golden retriever cross who works as a service dog for Janie Mejias, WEI’s Manager of Movement Strengthening. Neville is trained in over 45 cues to assist Janie. These include picking up dropped items, pushing automatic door buttons, closing doors and drawers, turning off and on light switches, putting the footrest on Janie’s power wheelchair up and down, tugging open doors, and tugging off clothing.

Neville was raised in Pennsylvania by a volunteer puppy raiser for Canine Companions. In May 2024, he graduated as a service dog after completing nine months of professional training at Canine Companions Northeast Regional Training Center. Canine Companions is the largest provider of service dogs in the United States. All of their service dogs are provided free of charge to adults, children, and veterans with disabilities.

In his spare time, Neville enjoys playing fetch, practicing his musical skills with his squeaky toys, cuddling, and calmly observing nature. He especially enjoys bird and squirrel watching.
