Irisa MacAulay

Fall Intern 2021 at Women Enabled International

Irisa graduated from Gallaudet University in 2019 with Bachelors in Government and Education and is currently a graduate student at Gallaudet University studying international development. Irisa specializes in intersections of gender and disability. She became more driven in this aspect of development when she went to Bulgaria for an internship throughout the summer of 2018. In Bulgaria, she collaborated with New Bulgarian University and Listen Up organization to raise awareness and advocate for literacy among Deaf/Hard of hearing children through sign language. She built a resource file website on gender-based violence among people with disabilities especially Deaf/Hard of hearing people. She completed her practicum at Humanity and Inclusion under the Institutional Funding department. On top of her role during her internship, she advocated for her community and provided a brown bag session on International Sign and how to improve encounters with Deaf people. Irisa loves exploring, learning new things, and discovering local coffee shops!
